HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

We hope each and every one of you have the most wonderful Thanksgiving.  We have so much to be thankful for this year and our wonderful students, teachers, and parents top the list.  As a Thanksgiving treat, we wanted to share some of the wonderful things our students were learning last week in preparation of Thanksgiving celebrations.   Our 2nd graders had a wonderful feast in honor of the first Thanksgiving dinner.  Our Kindergarten classes celebrated by participating in hands on lessons about Native American culture.  They learned and participated in Native American music, dance, symbols, dress, and face painting.  It was a fabulous event and all had so much fun!  Throughout our school, we cherished the opportunity to show our students what wonderful things come with this very thankful holiday.  Enjoy the rest of your break!

HAVING A BALL!

Last Friday, our students were able to attend a wonderful fundraiser intermurral basketball game.  Many 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were able to play several exciting games while the younger grades cheered on their favorites.  The 1.00 admission helped raise funding so our interested students can participate in the Community Youth Basketball League at the Covington Sportsplex. It was a great deal of fun and a wonderful way to support our students sports activities in the community!  We were able to catch a few shots of the girl's game in progress!

EXCELLING AT GETTING KIDS MOVING!

Our school was able to participate in a wonderful joint effort today to get kids up and moving!  Our own Dance and Drama teacher, Deborah Walker, and serveral of the Dance and Drama team members, presented a dance and choreography lesson today at Munford Elementary School.  This joint effort through Junior Auxiliary and Project Excel is an initiative to help get kids in our community focused on healthy, fun exercise.  We were so proud to be able to link together with another Tipton County school, community program, and local organization to reach out to a larger population of students.  We have included some of the wonderful moments caught on camera from today's event!

Celebrations of Freedom!

We want to offer our most sincere thanks to the men and women who have given their dedication, time, and even their lives to fight for the most precious gift, our freedom.  To every one who has answered the call to duty, we are grateful, and we hope this Veteran's Day finds you with hope and peace.

We thought this would be a perfect time to share at least one of the events held at our school before this blog site was created.  On September 17th, 2012 our students and faculty joined in a celebration of our Constitution.   There were wonderful performances by our CIAA choir and band, followed by a school-wide ceremony with more music and the raising of the United States flag, the State of Tennessee flag, and the CIAA Knights flag.  It was a wonderful event and an excellent lesson of the importance of our Constitution.   Here are a few photos of the day's events....

Reading is one of the most crucial and basic skills needed in the progression of learning.  As our children grow they will continue to learn ongoing skills that will require reading whether it be online or written work.  They have to read signs when they learn to drive, they will have to read their mail, their job description, and even a menu.  If you stop and think about how many times a day you read something, it is so evident how important this skill is to our children.  Now is the time that you can help your child excel.  You can read to them, have them read to you, or even create discussions about what they are reading.  If they are struggling in this area, you can get creative about how to motivate them for reading, such as the Sunday comics in the paper, signs on the way to school, or even the cereal boxes at breakfast.  There are hundreds of ways to encourage your child to read and in order to continue to grow, your child should be reading at least 20-30 minutes a day.  This is also great one on one parent child time.  If you notice your child is struggling with reading or doesn't seem interested in it, ask for help.  There are a great deal of resources available to help parents through those concerns.

Reading is VERY important to us at CIAA and we encourage our students to explore the world of reading in every classroom daily.  This is always an exciting week for our students as today marks the first day for our Fall Book Fair.  We would love for you to visit during one of our family nights and see the wonderful selection of books we have this year.  We look forward to seeing you!  So Ready, Set, READ!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

If there is one thing we can appreciate at CIAA, it is the ability to get creative with costumes!  Our staff and students can come up with some of the most innovative ways to dress up for Halloween and this week will be no exception.  We are very excited for our fundraising Halloween costume contest which will be held Wednesday at 2:00PM.  Our Pre-K through 2nd graders can dress up at no cost unless they would like to enter the contest itself.  Our 3rd through 8th graders need to bring $1.00 to dress up and participate in the contest and teachers can participate for $5.00.  Prizes will be offered for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and we are sure there are going to be some amazing costumes!  Students please remember to bring your costume money no later than Tuesday, October 30th.

As you can see, our staff are some of the "best dressed" for Halloween!

We can't wait to see what this year's costumes will bring!
